Code Licence

MTAA-Licence-Logo-Watermark.gifThe Code Licence uses a special licensee logo to identify those medical technology companies which support and complying with the MTAA Code of Practice. As a code licensee, a company is obliged to sign a licence agreement stating that it supports the principles and requirements of and confirms its commitment to implementing the Code of Practice.

The licensee logo can be displayed on letterhead, business cards, promotional material and displayed at meetings and conferences. It may not be used on any product and does not indicate an endorsement or certification by MTAA of the company or its activities.

Companies interested in using the logo, need to sign the licence agreement and return the form in Schedule 1 to Brett Andrews, Code Secretary.

Schedule 2 of the licence agreement sets out the requirements for the use of the logo. The agreement grants the use of the logo for one year and will incur an annual licence fee of $350.

The Code of Practice is a voluntary Code and, while binding for members of MTAA, is advisory for non-member medical technology companies. Non-member companies which subscribe to the Code may also become licensees. This means that the company not only complies with the Code but also submits to its requirements for compliance monitoring and education.

The Code regulates, amongst other things, the nature of professional interactions with healthcare professionals including:

  • Claims and endorsements in advertising and promotional material
  • Provision of product training and education by industry
  • Sponsorship of, and grants for, third party educational conferences
  • Hospitality for healthcare professionals
  • Consultancy arrangements with healthcare professionals
  • Fellowships.

A copy of the current edition of the Code of Practice is available here.

Companies are urged to consider linking the MTAA website and the Code to their own websites.

If you have any questions about the Code and its implementation or any enquiries regarding how to obtain a Code Licence and the use of the licensee logo, please contact code@mtaa.org.au.
