Ongoing professional development is essential for developing and maintaining a knowledgeable and sustainable medical technology workforce. Medical technology professionals require up to date knowledge, skills and understanding to deliver positive outcomes in the ever complex and changing healthcare environment.
Participating in the MTAA professional development program will foster excellence and provide ongoing opportunities to better enable and sustain the workforce. 2012 Program
The professional development program aims to provide a wide range of learning opportunities to specifically address individual learning needs.
The program is divided into three areas.

1. Training
The MTAA offers a range of face-to-face training modules across six courses. These are:
1.0 Medical Technology Regulation & Clinical Activities
2.0 MTAA Code of Practice
3.0 Working with Healthcare Professionals
4.0 Reimbursement of Medical Technology
5.0 Workforce Development
6.0 Commercial Practices
MTAA uses a blended learning approach to deliver training. This includes self-paced online, live webinars and face-to-face training (scheduled or in-house).
2. Education
The latest education audit identified over 2300 courses relevant to the medical technology industry. The Undergraduate and Post-graduate Course Directories assist in searching for relevant courses available through universities, TAFE and private providers across Australia.
A Workplace Learning Directory has been established to support secondary and tertiary students identify work placements. The directory lists MTAA member medical technology companies that have volunteered to offer workplace learning programs to students.
3. Information Sharing
MTAA MedTech Forums are designed to explore topical issues significant to the medical technology industry. Experts in the field will address different aspects of a topic, providing premium insight and areas for consideration. Delegates will be invited to ask questions from the floor during the concluding panel discussion.
CEO Forums are held up to three times a year in Sydney and are open to member company CEOs, Vice Presidents, Managing Directors and National Directors.
MedTech Seminars provide opportunities for industry employees to come together and discuss key medical technology industry issues in Sydney.
Webytes are free online webinars available only to MTAA members. Sessions are delivered by guest speakers over the internet and recorded for later reference. Details are available on the members' only section of the website.
E-briefings are free online briefings available only to members. The MTAA secretariat will present on a range of relevant topics, submissions and issues without the need to take members away from their workplaces; enabling participants to join the session throughout Australia.
A Virtual Library links members through the members only section of the website to important documents relevant to the industry.
