Kerrin Rennie Award for Excellence in Medical Technology and Improving Quality of Life

 

The Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) invites the Australian medical technology industry to participate in the 2022 Kerrin Rennie Award for Excellence in Medical Technology and Improving Quality of Life.

This award recognises the innovative and extraordinary contribution of medical technology in improving health outcomes for Australian patients. Any medical technology company based in or represented in Australia may enter a product launched in Australia between 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2022 and used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease or disability or improvement of quality of life.

Members and non-members are welcome to submit nominations.


2022 Key Dates

  • Friday, 19 August 2022, 5pm Nominations close
  • Thursday, 6 October 2022 Winners announced at the MTAA Australian MedTech Industry Awards Dinner.

How to Nominate

1. Complete the online nomination form. Afterwards, MTAA will send an email confirming your Nomination has been approved.

2. Prepare any evidence, photos and videos to support your nomination.

3. Reply to the MTAA email with a SharePoint foler link to insert your supporting content.


 
How to Enter
  1. Complete the online nomination form.
  2. Address the criteria and include an executive summary as set out in the rules.
  3. Include any supporting documentation as set out in the rules.
 
Criteria

The product must demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Evidence of significant contribution to improving patient outcomes by improving quality of life
  • Evidence of technical excellence
  • Evidence of innovation

In addressing the criteria applicants should consider and address the following questions:

  • What health problem is the technology addressing and how does it address it? 
  • What other products are currently available to address this issue and how does this technology differ from existing technology? 
  • Describe the technology. 
  • Having regard to the consumer’s quality of life, does the product provide a balance between invasiveness and efficacy? 
  • Scientific evidence to support the claims against the criteria. This may include published data, unpublished scientific data, results of clinical trials and/or patient feedback.
 
Rules
  • Entries will be accepted from any medical technology company based in Australia or represented in Australia at the time of product launch.
  • A company may enter more than one product. Each product will require a separate application.
  • Applications which do not address the criteria will not be considered.
  • No more than three applications will be accepted from any one company.
  • A product must include medical technology used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease or disability or improvement of quality of life.
  • The product must be launched in Australia between 1 January 2015 and 30 June 2022
  • Product must have either been designed, manufactured, or distributed in Australia.
  • Entries must be sent electronically to MTAA.
  • Entries must include an executive summary of no more than 200 words which is suitable for use in future promotion.
  • Entries must address the criteria and each response to the criteria must be no more than 300 words in length.
  • Applicants must complete an entry form signed by the company CEO or an authorised company representative.
  • Entries need to include the following:
    • 2-3 high resolution photos /footage of nominee, with team and at work
    • 70-100 words describing the nominee from the nominator or confirming you'd like the Awards Production Team do so (using application details).
    • Corporate logo in high resolution optionally with transparency
  • Entries may include photographs, supporting documentation and or samples
  • Entrants must be willing to participate in promotional activities relating to the Award.
  • The decision of the judging panel is final and no further correspondence about the decision of the judging panel will be entered.
 
Judges

The judging panel is independent of MTAA. It consists of a maximum of five individuals from around Australia, each of whom is selected for their expertise in medical technology, academia and research or represents a health professional or consumer perspective.

 
 Supporting Evidence

Include scientific evidence to support the claims. Please provide at least 3 pieces of supporting evidence. 

These may be used in the promotional activities and video footage, including possible projection on the large screens during the Awards night. For videos, high definition MP4, MOV or AVI format. For photos, a minimum of three (3) high resolution photos are required. Acceptable photo formats: JPG, EPS, PSD and/or PDF.

Section 1: Nomination Details

Please provide the full product name of the technology/medical device.

Please provide no more than 200 words which is suitable for promotion use.

What stage of the patient care pathway do patients benefit from this technology/medical device

The product must be launched in Australia between 1 January 2015 and 30 June 2022

Section 2: Detailed Description

This information will be submitted to the judges for consideration. Please address each question with clear, concise answers.

Explain how this technology has significantly contributed to improving patient outcomes by improving quality of life, shown technical excellence or innovation.

Section 3: Supporting Evidence

Include scientific evidence to support the claims. Please provide at least 3 pieces of supporting evidence.
