MTAA welcomes the new Minister of Health

On behalf of the Medical Technology Association of Australia we congratulate The Hon. Greg Hunt MP being appointed Minister for Health and Sport.


The MTAA has been, and remains, fully supportive of the Government’s efforts to achieve lasting and meaningful fact-based reform for medical device benefits.

MTAA appoints new Chief Executive Officer

Chairman of Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA), Gavin Fox-Smith, announced at the Annual-General Meeting the appointment of Ian Burgess as its next Chief Executive Officer. Mr Burgess will step into the role from Monday 30th January 2017.

HR Roundtable

"How do we educate our people to better face disruption and challenge?"

This Roundtable is a joint event with ACU to follow the Deloitte review of the Medical Technology Industry. The roundtable will explore ways to build relationships with universities and develop industry specific learning and development opportunities. This event will also give an opportunity to hear from MTAA’s new CEO, Ian Burgess and to network with industry colleagues in the HR and Training area.

SAB in Australian Public Hospitals report released

Staphylococcus Aureus Bacteraemia (SAB) is a serious bloodstream infection that is likely to result in longer hospital stay and increase the cost of hospitalisation. The national rate of SAB in the public hospitals has continued to decrease in 2015-16, based on the recently released AIHW report on SAB in Australian Public Hospitals 2015-16. Between 2011-12 and 2015-16, the rates of SAB decreased from 0.96 to 0.73 cases per 100,000 days of patient care. Overall the number of SAB cases decreased from 1,732 in 2011-12 to 1,440 in 2015-16.

February Prostheses List 2017 key dates

The Department of Health has released important dates for the upcoming February 2017 Prostheses list.

  • Early January - initial draft of February Prostheses list(items considered at January PLAC meeting are not included) is circulated to sponsors and suppliers for corrections
  • 27th January - final draft of February Prostheses list(items considered at the January PLAC meeting are included)is circulated to sponsors and suppliers to make final corrections.
  • 28th February - Private Health insurance(Prostheses) rules No 1(2017) is published.

Senate Inquiry into Prostheses List Framework

On 21 November, 2016 as anticipated the Senate voted to support Senator Xenophon and Senator Griff's motion for a Senate inquiry into the Prostheses List to be undertaken by the Senate Community Affairs Committee.

 

The submissions deadline is the 30 January 2017. The Committee has set a report date of 30 March 2017.
