PHI claims of $800 million debunked

A group of Australian med-tech companies is seeking a meeting with Health Minister Greg Hunt to push a new pricing model for the Prostheses List to end the bitter battle with private health insurers.

LifeHealthcare chief executive Matt Muscio is spearheading the proposal, saying the next couple of months are critical, given a senate inquiry on the controversial pricing list for medical devices is scheduled to report its findings.

Private Health Premiums to Rise Another $200 in 2018

The Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) has singlehandedly delivered through its Agreement with the Commonwealth the lowest premium increase in 17 years. The Agreement signed in October 2017 will save private health insurers $1.1 billion in payments for medical devices over the next four years.  However, these cuts are significant and will impact on jobs and investment in the medical technology industry.

Medical Technology industry welcomes balanced Prostheses List Report

The Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) today welcomed the findings of the Senate Inquiry into the price regulation associated with the Prostheses List Framework. The Senate Committee report clearly reflected the complexity of the issues involved in medical device pricing and rejected the slash and burn approach advocated by the private health insurers.  The recommendations of the report are sensible and MTAA supports them.

The Private Health Insurance (Prostheses Application and Listing Fee) Rules 2008 (No. 1) is due to sunset on 1 October 2018. These Rules cover the existing Prostheses List Application and Listing fees and imposition dates which can be viewed at Private Health Insurance (Prostheses Application and Listing Fee) Rules 2008 (No. 1).
