MedTech Livestream

Event Description

Join MTAA's MedTech Navigator, Auscelerate & UNSW Founders for a practical Pitching Masterclass featuring Jeff Reid and Bede O’Connor, exploring how to turn Australian MedTech innovation into a compelling commercial pitch for global partners, buyers, and investors.

A strong technology is only part of the story. Securing investment or engaging a multinational MedTech company requires a clear explanation of the problem you solve, the value you deliver and why your business represents an attractive opportunity. This session will help companies strengthen that story and understand the evidence, preparation and materials needed to support it.

Jeff Reid will deliver practical guidance from an investor’s perspective, covering what makes a good pitch, how to structure an effective deck and what materials to prepare for initial discussions. He will explore how investors assess opportunities, common pitching mistakes and how potential exit pathways, including trade sales and IPOs, can influence the investment proposition.

Bede O’Connor will bring the real-world business perspective, drawing on his experience with 360 Med Care and its acquisition by multinational MedTech company Enovis. His insights will explore building a commercially attractive business, demonstrating strategic fit and navigating engagement with a global organisation from early conversations through to acquisition.

Together, these complementary perspectives will connect the practical task of preparing your pitch with the commercial realities behind successful investment and multinational partnerships. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and apply the discussion to their own commercialisation journey.

Attendees will:

  • Learn how to translate technical innovation into a clear commercial value proposition.
  • Understand what investors and multinational MedTech companies look for when assessing an opportunity.
  • Gain practical guidance on pitch structure, deck content and supporting materials for initial meetings.
  • Hear firsthand lessons on building strategic relationships and preparing a business for potential acquisition.
  • Better understand how investment and exit pathways shape the story a company needs to tell.

Recommended for:

Founders, CEOs, business development leaders, commercialisation managers, innovation leads and professionals responsible for investment readiness, strategica partnerships and international growth.

My medtech journey with Howmedica/Stryker in 1995. In 2010 I was a co-founder at Optimized Ortho. This company was sold to Corin (owned by mid-tier private equity) in 2014. 360 Med Care was then formed; this company being sold to Enovis (NYSE listed) in 2022. I'm currently fascinated by nanoparticles and patient care pathways - two very different things.
