MTAA Women in MedTech White Paper
MTAA Women in MedTech Committee is commencing work on an industry-first White Paper that will provide a compressive analysis of women in Australia’s MedTech sector.
To build this evidence base to inform the White Paper, the WiMT Committee will be designing two complementary surveys for MTAA members and their employees.
Through a combination of industry surveys, literature review and stakeholder engagement, the project will establish the first comprehensive analysis of women’s representation, participation and career experiences within Australian MedTech, as well as the workplace policies and practices that support progress towards gender equality.
Why This Matters
Australia's MedTech industry is built on diverse expertise and a strong pipeline of talented people.
While gender equality is widely recognised as an important driver of talent attraction and workforce sustainability and wider innovation, there is currently no comprehensive industry-wide data on women's representation, participation and career experiences across Australian MedTech. This White Paper aims to change that.
This project will:
- Establish the first industry-specific snapshot of women’s representation, participation in Australian MedTech
- Capture career experiences, oppourtunities and perceptions of MTAA member employees across all genders
- Audit organisational policies or practices known to shift the dial relating to gender equality and inclusive workplace culture among MTAA member organisations.
- Create an evidence base and insights to inform conversations, initiatives, and systems change required to build a strong, diverse talent pipeline within MTAA Members and the wider Australian MedTech sector.
How the Project Will Work
To build a meaningful and representative picture of the industry, the White Paper incorporates two complementary surveys.
- Organisational Survey: Capturing de-identified workforce data and workplace practices and policies.
- Employee Survey: Open to employees of all genders within MTAA member organisations, exploring career experiences and perceptions of equity, diversity and inclusion.
Both surveys will open early October.
From Research to Action
The findings will be analysed and presented in the MTAA Women in MedTech White Paper, scheduled for release at the MTAA MedTechConference in March 2027.

Access to raw survey datasets is restricted to Karen De Leeuw, MTAA Director of Finance and Administration and the Company Secretary, for the purposes of data governance, security and administration of the project.
Survey data provided for analysis will be fully de-identified before being shared with project researchers, analysts or other authorised contributors. Findings will be reported in aggregate form only. No individual will be identified in any report, publication or presentation. Where organisational data is reported, results will be aggregated and / or anonymised to prevent identification of individual organisations.
