Gender Equity White Paper

WiMT Gender Equity White Paper

Building the first evidence-based picture of gender equity in Australia's MedTech Industry

The MTAA Women in MedTech Committee (WiMT) is leading an industry-first research project to better understand gender equity across Australia's MedTech industry.

While gender diversity is widely recognised as an important driver of innovation, talent attraction and workforce sustainability, there is currently no comprehensive industry-wide data on women's representation, participation and career experiences across Australian MedTech. This White Paper aims to change that.

Through a combination of industry surveys, literature review and stakeholder engagement, the project will establish the first evidence-based benchmark of gender equity across the Australian MedTech industry and help identify opportunities for future progress

Why This Matters

Australia's MedTech industry is built on innovation, expertise and talented people.

To ensure our industry continues to thrive, we need a deeper understanding of the experiences, opportunities and challenges that shape career pathways across our workforce.

This project will:

  • Establish the first industry-wide snapshot of gender equity in Australian MedTech
  • Create an evidence base to inform future workforce strategies and industry action
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen talent attraction, retention and leadership pathways
  • Support informed conversations about workforce development and diversity across the industry
  • Help MTAA and its members better understand the evolving needs of the MedTech workforce

How the Research Works

To build a meaningful and representative picture of the industry, the White Paper incorporates two complementary surveys.Organisational Survey.

Organisational Survey
  • For MTAA member organisations.
  • The survey collects de-identified workforce data and information about workplace policies and practices that support equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • This data will help establish an industry benchmark and identify trends across the Australian MedTech workforce.

Who should complete it? HR leaders, People & Culture teams, business leaders and authorised organisational representatives.

Employee Survey
  • For employees of MTAA member organisations.
  • Open to employees of all genders, this survey explores career experiences, career progression and perceptions of workplace equity and inclusion.
  • The survey provides valuable insight into lived experiences across the industry and complements the organisational data collected.

Who should complete it? Any employee working within an MTAA member organisation.
