Environmental Sustainability

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is an area of increasing focus across the health care system and will require ongoing collaboration between government, suppliers, clinicians, and health service organisations to ensure high quality, clinically safe care can be done in a way that minimises its environmental impact.

MTAA Sustainability Forum

MTAA convenes a dedicated Sustainability Forum for members interested in collaborating, sharing initiatives, and shaping industry-wide action on sustainability.

Our members are currently advancing work in four key focus areas:

  • Healthcare decarbonisation
  • Circular economy and waste reduction
  • Sustainable and resilient supply chains
  • Sustainable procurement

For more information or to get involved, please contact industry@mtaa.org.au.

Background information on current sustainability policy activity:  Governments at a State and Commonwealth Level have developed long term strategies to decarbonise their respective systems across Australia. For information on these current government strategies, please see below.

Medical Waste

To understand more about medical waste, MTAA has developed an online webpage outlining:

  • Different medical technology waste streams
  • Waste providers offering solutions targeting different waste streams
