Strategic Examination of R&D (SERD) review
The aim of this review, being run by an expert panel of leading academic and industry professionals, is to provide a series of policy recommendations to the Government to help lift Australia’s overall R&D performance globally across different sectors (including MedTech). The aim of this MTAA submission is to highlight that this Review should not only consider technology push factors, but demand side pull factors to incentivise more MedTech R&D and Commercialisation activity in Australia. Furthermore, our submission emphasises that MedTech research within the ecosystem needs to have more focus in firstly identifying unmet needs in our healthcare system and then conducting research (rather than conducting research and then trying to find a use for a technology).
