CSIRO Generation STEM Program

Generation STEM is a 10-year initiative delivered by CSIRO to attract, support, retain and train more NSW students and workers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers and study pathways. The initiative empowers local young people with the relevant STEM skills to pursue a STEM career. The ambition is to build a strong community of STEM-capable citizens to fuel local industry.

CSIRO is looking for mentors with experience in STEM fields to work with teachers in Western Sydney. By being a mentor, you can guide teachers through local challenges, share your experiences from the workplace and unique STEM story, and excite students to consider STEM as a career. Watch the 2020 showcase video to see some of the students’ work from last year.

Your involvement is flexible – what this looks like will be agreed between you and the teacher and could just be a regular phone/video call, or you may like to do a presentation to students. As a guideline, you’ll be expected to commit at least one hour each school term.

If you would like to find out more, please contact Kirsty O’Sullivan from the Generation STEM team at generationSTEM@csiro.au.
