The Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) and the Asia Pacific Medical Technology Association (APACMed) are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership to jointly host the inaugural AI Revolutionising MedTech Symposium – Australia, taking place 19 November 2025 at Novotel Sydney Airport.

This full-day, in-person event will bring together leaders across government, industry, hospitals, and patient advocacy to explore the future of artificial intelligence (AI) in MedTech, and how Australia can lead the way in responsible and impactful innovation.

The event is expected to feature a diverse range of speakers and guests from across government, regulatory agencies, hospitals, industry, and patient advocacy.

MTAA CEO, Ian Burgess, said the timing of the Symposium aligns with a pivotal moment in Australia’s policy and innovation landscape.

With the recent release of government reviews on the regulation of AI in healthcare and growing momentum around digital transformation, this Symposium comes at exactly the right time,” said Mr Burgess.

It’s an opportunity to connect policymakers, industry, and healthcare leaders to ensure Australia is not only keeping pace with global innovation, but actively shaping it for the benefit of patients.”

APACMed CEO, Harjit Gill, said the partnership with APACMed reflects Australia’s growing role in the global MedTech dialogue.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping healthcare systems worldwide and integrating AI is becoming a crucial priority for the MedTech sector. It is critical that Australia is both contributing to and learning from international best practice,” said Ms Gill

“APACMed is excited to partner with MTAA to bring regional and global perspectives to local challenges and ensure the Australian MedTech sector is advancing in step with the Asia Pacific region to deliver better, smarter care for patients.”

The Australia AI Revolutionising MedTech Symposium will explore the need for accessible and representative data, how industry and government can collaborate to develop AI talent for the MedTech and healthcare ecosystem, and how to ensure that the MedTech industry remains cyber-ready without compromising on innovation and patient care.

AI is transforming the way healthcare is delivered, from diagnosis to long-term management. In Australia, momentum is building around the integration of AI in healthcare, with significant government focus on ensuring its safe and effective use.

This has been reinforced by a series of government consultations on the safe and responsible use of AI in healthcare, including reviews conducted by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DoHDA) and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Final reports released in July 2025 from both DoHDA and TGA highlight the need for clear, fit-for-purpose regulation to support innovation, protect patients, and ensure ethical use of AI across the health system. These developments, alongside the introduction of the Cyber Security Act 2024, underscore the critical importance of aligning policy, innovation, and system readiness.
