MTAA Marks International Women's Day

MTAA and its member companies today mark the importance of Women in MedTech on International Women’s’ Day.

MTAA believes in equality of opportunity for everyone, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion or beliefs. One way the MedTech industry is championing this cause is through our Women in MedTech (WiMT) initiative which aims to proactively support gender equality within the MedTech community by supporting women to unlock their full potential.

MTAA is driving this discussion through a six stepped process:

MTAA CEO, Ian Burgess, said the great strength of the MedTech industry comes when it invests in and empowers all our people to achieve great things for our common benefit.

“Unfortunately compared to the wider workforce, we know that women are underrepresented in STEM industries, including MedTech. Understanding the barriers and enablers to achieving equality between men and women in our industry is an important step in improving our practices and supporting the strategies to help make change happen,” Mr Burgess said.

“That’s why in keeping with our WiMT initiative, MTAA is pleased to have partnered with the University of Newcastle and Macquarie University to produce the ‘Gender Equity in the Medical Technology Sector’ report to provide further insights and guidance for our industry leaders to follow.

“MTAA is leading on this important cause because we know that we all have a role to play in ending gender stereotypes and biases.”
