Recorded on 25 May 2022, MTAA interviewed mentors and mentees on their experience of the Mentoring Program. Hosted by Women in MedTech Committee Chair, Rebecca Cortuila, the panellist reflected on the benefits of the Program and what makes a successful and fruitful pairing.

Naema discusses modeling behaviour and adopting the mindset of "do you want to be successful today and into the future". She also discussed how the mentoring program allows you to surround yourself with like-minded and supportive individuals

For Mentors, mentorship develops an insight into other organisations. These ideas can be adopted to your organisation for better practices, processes and policies.

 

The discussions between the mentor/mentee uncovered new learnings about the Industry. The Program encourages the pairing of mentors/mentees from different backgrounds and this arrangement promotes new and often broader insights into how businesses and the wider industry operate.

Becoming a Menter enables people to become a better version of themselves. This encouragement helps boost their confidence in work and other aspects of their lives.


What Makes a Successful Pairing?


David Lewin, Business Unit Manager CMF & T, Zimmer Biomet, reflects on his relationship with his mentee. The discussion opened a conversation on career development, how the mentee could progress their career prospects, and how to handle these discussions with their place of work.

 

Michelle Vrab, HR Manager, Terumo, discusses the importance of being very clear about each other's expectations early on.

David Lewin, Business Unit Manager CMF & T, Zimmer Biomet, discusses the importance of adapting an open mindset to the Mentor/Mentee meetings.

 

The Program encourages a safe, open and honest relationship between the two parties. Without barriers, the two can work together to progress toward their goals and overcome issues faced.

Rebecca Cortuila reflects on what makes the pairing successful between mentors and mentees. The mentor establishes a safe environment to encourage conversation, and mentees to be responsible for their learning.
