Organisations

ACCC

The ACCC promotes competition and fair trade in the market place to benefit consumers, businesses and the community. Its primary responsibility is to ensure that individuals and businesses comply with the Commonwealth competition, fair trading and consumer protection laws.

Australian Tax Office

MTAA is working with the Australian Tax Office (ATO) to provide members with information on how the ATO can assist. The ATO has developed a new webpage to assist small business at all stages of the business life cycle to find products and services that can help them.

HealthPACT

MTAA has been working with HealthPACT to explore processes for increasing industry engagement with the State and Territory health departments to identify emerging medical technologies. HealthPACT now reports to the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Committee (AHMAC), which has as members the heads of the departments of health. HealthPACT has had a horizon scanning role for the jurisdictions but through closer industry engagement MTAA is looking at mechanisms to bring to the attention of the jurisdictions beneficial medical technologies, including those that might still be in the research and development pipeline. One of the benefits may be an increase in Australia as a clinical trial site and broader diffusion of new products.

Standards Australia

Standards Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, recognised by the Australian Government as the peak non-government Standards body in Australia. Standards Australia develops internationally aligned Australian Standards that deliver net benefit to Australia and is the Australian member of ISO and IEC.

MTAA has representation on many of the committees that develop standards related to medical technology.
